How to download your Ally Bank statement as a PDF

  1. Log in to ally.com and open the account.
  2. For a statement, go to the statements and forms area and save the PDF for the month you need.
  3. For raw activity instead, scroll to Transactions History and use the download icon — Ally offer CSV and Quicken (QFX), though see below for why the statement is usually the better source.
  4. Drop the saved PDF onto StatementSnap and export to Excel, CSV, or QuickBooks.

What Ally Bank statements look like

Ally's retention rules are the most counterintuitive of any bank on this list, and they run the opposite way to what you would expect. While your account is open you can see up to 18 months of account activity. Close a single account and you keep access for 60 days. But close all of your Ally accounts and statements and tax forms remain available for seven years. The practical consequence is that an active, long-held Ally account is one of the harder places to get at your own older history — the statements are the durable record, the activity view is not, and 18 months arrives sooner than people plan for.

Ally Bank statement questions

Ally lets me download CSV already. Why convert the statement?
The CSV is account activity, not the statement, and it stops at 18 months. It also carries no opening or closing balance, so nothing in it can be checked — a missing transaction looks exactly like a complete file. Converting the statement PDF keeps those balances, and the badge confirms the rows add up.
How far back can I see Ally transactions?
Up to 18 months of account activity while the account is open. Statements are the way to reach anything older, which is why saving them as they arrive is worth the minute it takes.
I closed my Ally account. How long do I have?
Sixty days of access if you closed one account. If you closed all of them, statements and tax forms stay available for seven years — which is, oddly, longer than the activity history you get while the account is open.
What is QFX and should I use it?
It is Quicken's format, and it is fine if Quicken is where the data is going. For Excel, QuickBooks or anything else, converting the statement gives you a checked file and a choice of formats rather than one export aimed at one program.
