How to download your bank statement as a PDF

Every bank puts statements somewhere slightly different, but the path is nearly always the same shape. These steps work at the 367 institutions below and at the ones that are not listed — StatementSnap has no per-bank templates, so your bank does not need to be here for the conversion to work.

The six steps

1. Sign in to online banking in a desktop browser. Mobile apps often show statements without letting you save the PDF, and a few only offer to email it to you.
2. Open the account you need the statement for. If you hold several accounts, check you are in the right one — combined statements are common at credit unions and are easy to grab by mistake.
3. Find the statements area. It is usually called "Statements & Documents", and the other names you will see are "Statements", "Documents", "eStatements" or "Paperless". At some banks it sits under Account Services or a settings menu rather than on the account page itself.
4. Choose the statement period. Most banks keep between 18 months and 7 years online. If you need older than that, ask for it before you cancel the account — getting it afterwards usually means a phone call and a fee.
5. Download the PDF. Do not screenshot it and do not print-to-image: a screenshot has no text layer, so it has to be read as a picture, which is slower and less accurate.
6. Drop the PDF on StatementSnap and export to Excel, CSV, or QuickBooks.

What differs by institution

Deposit accounts

A current or savings statement carries a beginning balance, an ending balance, and dated transaction lines between them. That is what makes the reconciliation check possible: the transactions have to add up to the closing balance, and if they do not, something was missed.

Credit cards

Card statements report what you owe as a positive number, so a purchase is printed positive and your payment is the one marked CR. StatementSnap reads the direction from the statement's own layout and writes it from your point of view instead — money out negative, money in positive. There is usually no running balance, so the check runs against the summary box on the front page.

Credit unions

Member statements often combine several share accounts — savings, checking, a loan — in one PDF. StatementSnap parses the primary account and raises a warning about the others rather than silently mixing them together.

Online-only banks

Statements are generated in the app or web dashboard rather than printed and mailed, so they almost always have a clean text layer. The harder part is finding them: they are frequently under a settings or documents menu rather than on the account screen.

Scanned or posted statements

A statement you photographed or scanned has no text layer at all. StatementSnap renders those pages and reads them as images. It works, it is slower, and the reconciliation badge matters more — it is what tells you whether anything was misread.
